Former Vice President, Global Co-Head of Climate Finance, Conservation International
Robert Baigrie is Vice President at Conservation International, responsible for co-leading the global Climate Finance strategy. In this role Robert’s long private sector experience informs CI’s strategic engagement with donors, corporate partners, and institutional investors around the organization’s global portfolio of natural climate solutions (NCS). It is his understanding of finance, conservation, and partnership that helps to guide CI’s associated efforts to create aligned and blended climate finance initiatives in support of their ambitious climate goals. Robert is currently managing a technical team, a portfolio of conservation projects, and is working to further refine CI’s offering of blended finance mechanisms that would seek to scale investment capital for high-quality natural climate solutions in the Asia Pacific.
Previously, when Robert was CI’s Head of Developed Markets for Asia Pacific, he managed the country programs of Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia and was responsible for Development, Corporate Partnerships, Communications, and Conservation Finance across the whole Asia Pacific Field Division. He joined CI as an inaugural member of the Liu-Walton Technical Fellowship (2016-2018).
Prior to joining Conservation International, Robert spent 16 years in the financial sector as a specialist in hedge fund investment strategies and investor markets throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Robert grew up in South Africa and has traveled widely in Southern and Eastern Africa. He lived and worked in London for 10 years and in Asia for 12. Before his move to work in conservation, Robert was most recently Head of Capital Consulting Services, Prime Finance for Citibank in the Asia Pacific, based out of Hong Kong.
Robert studied Economics at the University of Stellenbosch and has passed all levels of the CFA Program. He has a passion for wildlife and the environment, is married, with a young daughter and now lives in Monterey, California, USA.
