Recent Wins in Panama Stop Poaching Efforts
Between June and July, the Naso Kjunkler park ranger group, in coordination with the Ministry of Environment rangers stationed in the Bonyic sector of the Naso Comarca, carried out a series of protection and control operations.
La Amistad International Park’s Second Quarter 2025 Report
Environmental control and protection made significant progress during the evaluation period. A total of 157 operations were carried out to safeguard natural resources, which resulted in the seizure of goods valued at over USD $70,000. Additionally, over 25,000 kilometers of terrestrial patrols were conducted, and 28 environmental complaints were addressed, strengthening surveillance and response to ecological threats.

Steps taken by Panama in the past year include enacting a province-wide illegal logging moratorium in Darien to stop anarchic cutting and clearing of tropical rainforests until a new permitting system is deployed, while hiring, equipping, and training 240 new national park rangers with the trucks, boats, and equipment they need—with an additional 50 rangers on the way.
